Tommy Alsup serves as Co-Founder and Partner of AK Strategies, a full-service government relations firm located in Nashville, TN.

With more than 20 years of experience in building relationships between the public and private sector, Tommy leads state and local government relations efforts for a diverse portfolio of clients.

Prior to co-founding AK Strategies, Tommy served as Principal at Vogel Group, a nationally recognized lobbying firm headquartered in Washington, D.C., where he helped establish and grow the firm’s Tennessee presence, contributing to the rapid expansion of the office.

Tommy previously served as Vice President of Government Affairs for Envision Healthcare, a $15 billion healthcare and national hospital-based physician group. In that role, he managed the company’s network of state-level lobbyists and directed advocacy strategies with governors, legislatures, and local officials nationwide. His work was instrumental in advancing key public policy initiatives, including legislation related to surprise medical billing in Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee.

Tommy has also developed extensive expertise in national sales, state procurement, public-private partnerships, and strategic business development. Over the course of his career, he has advised companies pursuing growth opportunities through state and local funding initiatives, while overseeing complex procurement processes and large-scale requests for proposals across multiple industries. Connecting State and local governments with business is crucial in this current environment and Tommy has successfully accomplished those goals for more than two decades.

Before entering the healthcare sector, Tommy held senior government relations positions with Corizon Health and CoreCivic, the nation’s largest owner of correctional, detention, and residential reentry facilities. His public service background includes serving as Mayor of Oak Hill from 2002 to 2010, where he worked collaboratively with state and local officials on regional and statewide initiatives. Tommy continues to maintain strong relationships throughout Tennessee government, including with Governor Bill Lee and his administration.

Tommy earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Lipscomb University.
